Governments and related departments, organizations and agencies often have special language requirements for their employees in a number of positions.
In Canada, for roles in the federal government particularly, there are training requirements for French and English, the two official languages. These requirements depend on the particular position or role, whether or not it has been designated as “bilingual,” meaning it requires both English and French competence, and sometimes where the position is located.
Employees may need second and even first-language skills that can range from technical analysis terminology and strong comprehension to general conversation and writing abilities.
The Government of Canada specifies two types of language qualifications for bilingual positions:
- General second official-language qualifications – A, B, or C; and
- Specific bilingual language qualifications requiring “Code P” designation, such as those related to technology or specialized official language skills.

Specific Language Qualification – Code P

Our coaching techniques stress clarity and fluency, so you become better at parsing information for relevance, and relaying it accurately and comprehensively. You will communicate better in informal ways, such as through emails, discussions and meetings that often inform or lead to decision making.
Depending on individual needs, we help learners develop more effective writing skills, so briefing notes, formal and informal project summaries, reports and presentations become easier to prepare and more fit-for-purpose.
